Bring photographic identification, and know which parts are over-18s

Four areas of this complex are restricted to over-18s and the rest are not, the dress code has a short list of exclusions, and the spa runs on timed slots. This page gathers the practical rules in one place, with the source of each one shown.

The rules that catch people out

Four things to settle before you set off

  • Carry photographic identification. Challenge 25 means anyone who looks under 25 is asked to prove their age at the casino door.[1, 2]
  • You can walk into the casino without joining anything: it is an open-door venue.[1]
  • Smart jeans and smart trainers meet the smart casual standard.[1, 2]
  • The walk from Birmingham International is step-free the whole way.[6]
  • Do not arrive at 11am expecting dealers. Doors open then, but live tables start in the early afternoon and the official pages disagree on whether that is 1pm or 2pm.[1, 9]
  • Do not bring a cap or hat into the casino: faces have to be visible on camera.[1, 2]
  • Do not plan on children in the spa or the pool. Every area is over-18s.[3, 4]
  • Do not assume open spa use with a room. Standard guest access is a single 90 minute slot on a first-come basis.[3]

What the venue publishes about accessible facilities

These are the venue’s own statements, repeated here because they are useful and checkable. They are not a substitute for ringing ahead: anyone with specific requirements should confirm them with the hotel directly, on +44 (0)121 273 1000.

  • Accessible rooms are described as having wide doorways, a wet room with grab rails, and emergency pull cords with 24-hour assistance.[5]
  • The walk from Birmingham International station is described as step-free throughout and mostly covered, and as suitable for wheelchairs and buggies.[6]
  • Accessible parking bays are provided in all of the venue’s car parks.[8]
  • Family bays are provided on all three levels of the multi-storey car park.[8]

Short answers to the questions this guide gets asked

Do I need to be a member to get into the casino? No. The operator describes this as an open-door venue, so you can walk in and decide inside whether to register for its scheme or stay a guest.[1, 2]

What time do the tables open? The casino opens at 11am, and live gaming starts in the early afternoon. The casino’s own pages say 1pm and the hotel’s casino page says 2pm, so we quote both rather than pick one.[1, 2, 9]

Is there a dress code? Smart casual. Smart jeans and smart trainers are fine. Club football shirts, muscle and vest tops, construction workwear, caps and hats are not.[1, 2]

Can I take children into the spa? No. The hotel states that every area of Santai Spa, including the pool, is restricted to over-18s.[3, 4]

How long do hotel guests get in the spa? A 90 minute session, available between 7am and 10am and between 3pm and 9.45pm, first come first served with a waiting list at busy times. Superior rooms are described as including access across all opening hours instead.[3, 4]

Is reception open when I arrive late? Yes. The hotel states that its reception team is available 24 hours a day.[3]

Can I get there without a car? Yes, and easily. Birmingham International station is a covered, step-free walk of about ten to fifteen minutes through the NEC.[6]

Does this site take bookings? No. Midnight Resort House is an independent guide with no connection to the venue. Rooms, tables, offers and membership are all handled by the venue’s own official channels, and we hold no payment details of any kind.

How do I stop myself gambling here? SENSE excludes you from every licensed land-based casino in Great Britain in one application, either online or by asking to speak to a manager at any casino without entering the gaming areas.[10] There is more on our responsible gambling page.
